Middleton is a unique rural community (population 4166) that offers a rare quality of life. Nestled in the Treasure Valley with two mountain ranges in full view, Middleton boasts a mild climate with four seasons. Middleton is one of the fastest growing communities in Idaho, yet continues to offer a small town feel for those who live here.
Middleton is within easy commuting distance (6-25 miles) of large industries, and is surrounded by agricultual land. Highway 44 passes through town, providing easy access to I-84 (3 miles to the west) and to Boise and the State Capitol (20 miles to the east). Boise is the largest city in Idaho and offers a complete line of shopping and cultural activities. Residents of Middleton enjoy the country life in the great outdoors with the Boise River passing just south of town and Bogus Basin, Tamarack, and other popular ski resorts just an hour away. Our residents enjoy some of the best hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, rockhounding, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, cross country skiing and river rafting in the United States.
The City has really boomed in the last 6 years with residential construction. There is a 35 unit affordable housing complex that was completed in late 2004 and a new Assisted living facility that opened in July 2005. Water is clean and pure with no additives. The City has just finished a 1.2 million dollar upgrade on the sewer system and wastewater treatment facilities are in place to accommodate a population of 30,000. Easy access to health facilities, creative arts centers, and accredited higher education facilities.
Middleton has the distinction of being the onldes town in Canyon County and one of the oldest in the State of Idaho. The town plat was drawn up on 1863 by William N. Montgomery. The town was aptly named Middleton because it was located midway between Boice City and Fort Boise.
Back in the 1870s, the Middleton Flour Mill brought farmers from the surrounding 100 miles or more with great loads of wheat to be ground or exchanged for flour. Today, people from everywhere come to Middleton to enjoy small town pleasures and country living. The workforce here is widely diversified, to staff surrounding industries and business.

Middleton thrives on agriculture and related industries. Farmers produce a variety of crops such as potatoes, sugar beets, grains, corn, mint, hops, beans, commercial nursery stock. Irrigation water is supplied from the Boise River and and Payette River (Black Canyon Dam project).
